From 5-6th November 2017, the 4th ASEANSAI Summit was held in Lao PDR which attented by the heads of ten SAI members of the organisation. Representatives from GIZ, WB, EU and ADB, etc. were also present at the event. Delegates from SAI Vietnam, headed by Dr. Ho Duc Phoc, Auditor General were among the attendants.
Heads of ASEANSSAI’s member SAIs at the Summit
The Summit was an important event of ASEANSAI acting as a biennual forum for the Southeast Asia public audit community to review the progress of organization for the preceeding two years. Opening the meeting, Dr. Viengthong Siphandone, Vice President of ASEANSAI, President of SAI Laos, conveyed her delight on ASEANSAI’s growth since its inception in November 2011. The organization has constantly developed and so achieved its goals and objectives which mainly focus on enhancing state audit expertise and contributing to the rule of law and good management in respective member countries and the region.
In his welcome remark, Mr. Sonesay Siphandone, Deputy Prime Minister of Lao PDR assumed that the Summit would be a forum for Heads of SAIs to set up their work plans to achieve ASEANSAI’s strategic objectives. This is to fulfil its missions and vision and to assist in stabilizing financial and monetary policies, implementing socio-economic development plans, combating corruption and encouraging investment in ASEAN community.
At the Summit, delegates jointly assessed ASEANSAI’s achievements for the two previous years. They exchanged good practices and experiences on regional audit topics and identified objectives and audit areas to ensure sustainable development of the community for the next term. SAI Vietnam, as the Chairman of Strategic Plan Committee (SPC) presented SPC’s Activity Report for the period 2015 – 2017 and proposed Work Plan for 2018 – 2019. The Report was then ananimously adopted by the Assembly.
The Assembly agreed to elect SAI Laos as Chairman of ASEANSAI for the next term. SAI Vietnam continues to be entrusted with Chairman of SPC and SAI Indonesia as the Secretariat for the tenure 2018 – 2019. ASEANSAI’s Committees would be responsible for chairing the implementation of their respective Work Plans approved by the Summit.
On the sideline of the Summit, Phoc had bilateral talks with some Heads of participarting SAIs to discuss on cooperation opportunities between SAI Vietnam and these member SAIs.
