ASOSAI Capacity Development Program Workshop 2023 “Audit of Infectious Disease Prevention Programs in post COVID-19 situation” took place in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.On October 16, 2023, Capacity Development Program Workshop 2023 of Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), hosted by the State Audit Office of Viet Nam, was officially launched in the capital of Ha Noi. Attending the Workshop were representatives from ASOSAI Capacity Development Administrator, ASOSAI Resource Persons, experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), International Cooperation Department of SAI Viet Nam and participants from ASOSAI members. Deputy Auditor General of Viet Nam - Dr. Ha Thi My Dzung underscored the Workshop's significance as an opportunity for ASOSAI members to share invaluable experiences in pandemic response, public health system and expertise in auditing of infectious disease prevention programs in the era of post COVID-19 situation.   Ms. Shiori Watanabe – representative of Board of Audit of Japan, ASOSAI Capacity Development Administrator   As a member of ASOSAI Governing Board, SAI Viet Nam has constantly made utmost endeavors to carry out the tasks of ASOSAI Strategic Plan for the period 2022-2027, particularly by promoting capacity development initiatives for member SAIs through training and knowledge sharing activities in the new context, which required SAIs to be ready to respond to changes and challenges – said Dr. Dzung.   Deputy Auditor General of Viet Nam - Dr. Ha Thi My Dzung and delegates chaired the opening ceremony of the Workshop   According to Dr. Dzung, countries around the world have recently undergone a period of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had severe and long-lasting consequences for the economy and society. Countries and international organizations have made efforts, proposed solutions to combat the pandemic to overcome those consequences, and draw valuable lessons to be able to proactively respond to unpredicted pandemic and disasters in the future.   With the support of the Board of Audit of Japan - ASOSAI Capacity Development Administrator, ASOSAI Resource Persons and expert from the WHO, Dr. Dzung believed that ASOSAI Workshop 2023 would provide an opportunity for ASOSAI members to share valuable experiences in responding to the pandemic, public health system and audit procedures of infectious disease prevention programs in a post-pandemic context, which would contribute to the development and continuous innovation of ASOSAI's capacity development program, improving its quality and effectiveness.   Leaders of SAI Viet Nam and ASOSAI Resource Persons   Delivering remarks at the opening ceremony, Ms. Shiori Watanabe, representative of the Board of Audit of Japan, said that the Workshop was the first in-person activity in the framework of ASOSAI capacity development program for member SAIs’ auditors after the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on all areas of society, particularly the health system. Infectious disease prevention and control programs and the entire healthcare system must draw valuable lessions from the COVID-19 pademuc to prepare for future outbreaks. In this context, SAIs play a crucial role in monitoring and evaluating government implemention of effective measures based on these lessons learned. Ms. Shiori Watanabe encouraged participants to actively engage in the workshop’s activities, acquire knowledge and skills on auditing infectious disease prevention and control programs as  SAI representatives, and  share their learning outcomes with SAI leaders. “This is an excellent opportunity for all of us to learn together with colleagues from other countries. I am confident that SAIs' representatives at the workshop will expand communication, fostering stronger connection among ASOSAI members” - Ms. Shiori Watanabe emphasized.   Participants at the Workshop   Following the commencement of the opening ceremony, instructors and participants engaged in sharing and discussing various specific topics related to public health system, infectious diseases, risks and policy gaps, people's medical requirements of individuals, public health policy and planning, health system resilience, public health services provision, monitoring and evaluating the health system, research methodologies for public health system recovery, audit procedures for infectious disease prevention programs in the post-pandemic context, among others.   As per the scheduled program, the workshop concluded on October 28, 2023./.
